To Be A Kid Again…

Contrary to someone’s (*cough* Sean the Squid *cough*) opinion, Maxine is still the cutest kid ever! She is constantly calling me to ask if we can hang out or do something together. So in order to appease her constant requests and reward her patience we went and had breakfast together at her favorite place, a coffee shop just a few blocks away from where we live. Her mom had given her $2.00 to get a muffin or something but she actively and persistently (yet failed) to convince me to let her get an ice-cream sundae instead… and keep it between just the two of us. At 8:30 in the morning? …I think not, Miss Maxine. We sat in the coffee shop and played cards for about half an hour. Right before we began playing cards, Maxine pulled out some electronic device, set a little microphone thing on the table, and pressed play. I asked her what she was doing and she proceeded to say, “I need to record everything that we say on our fun day together”… and so she did!

After the coffee shop she insisted on showing me the new “cool, awesome, most amazing jungle gym ever in the whole entire world” that had been built at her school. We walked 10 minutes to her school and I agreed to 5 minutes of freeze tag and 10 minutes on the jungle gym… it was 13 degrees outside people! What was I thinking?! I must admit though, the jungle gym WAS like no other. There was this one gadget/equipment/thingy that you had to stand on while holding onto a bar as it spun you around super, superrrrrrr FAST. I am convinced that it is unsafe for people under 18 years old regardless of the fact that it was placed in an elementary school jungle gym. Or am I simply attempting to justify the insane amount of fun I had on it… and the stares I am sure we received as Maxine patiently sat down waiting to leave while I continued to spin? Hmmmmmmm…

Just Do It.

“THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN INTEREST AND COMMITMENT. WHEN YOU ARE INTERESTED IN DOING SOMETHING THEN YOU ONLY DO IT WHEN IT’S CONVENIENT. WHEN YOU ARE COMMITTED TO SOMETHING; YOU ACCEPT NO EXCUSES; ONLY RESULTS.”

What have you been waiting until tomorrow to start? When we put things off until tomorrow… tomorrow never comes… we never do it [reality check]. Start right now. MAKE IT HAPPEN! =)

Ben and Jerry… It’s Over!

Whenever we are struggling to keep a new commitment or make a transformation, I believe that it is important to remember:

It is not that the old way of life becomes unappealing, it is that a new PASSION overcomes those old appeals!

What I’m saying is that whether we are struggling with overcoming sin or becoming healthier, we must understand that just because we made a decision to turn from our old ways does not mean that the old way of life will  become any less appealing. Unfortunately, sin will not instantly lose it’s sparkle nor will Ben and Jerry’s Cookies N’ Cream ice cream taste any less heavenly (why, why, why does it have to be so good?!) We have got to understand that whenever a change is being made in our lives, our old ways will still appeal to us. We only overcome them when a new passion greater than our old way of life is born.
