The Prince and the Pauper.

- As per Wikipedia:

“A pauper’s oath is a sworn statement or oath by a person that he or she is completely destitute or a pauper, i.e. without any money or property.

Historically, especially during the Great Depression, the pauper’s oath was required as a prerequisite for receiving welfare or other forms of government relief in the United States.”

The more I draw nearer to God, the more He teaches me that I have nothing of myself. I am completely destitute, fully dependent on Him to live. Apart from Him I have nothing good. As I daily fight the battle against the debilitating fears, emotions, and desires of my own self I must realize that I do not fight this battle in my own means. All of my righteousness, goodness, and merit is of God. I do solemnly declare the pauper’s oath. I have nothing. I am completely dependent on another and in this my heart rests.

“But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God – and righteousness and sanctification and redemption – that, as it is written, ‘He who glories, let him glory in the Lord’.”
1 Corinthians 1:30-31

Just Do It.

“THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN INTEREST AND COMMITMENT. WHEN YOU ARE INTERESTED IN DOING SOMETHING THEN YOU ONLY DO IT WHEN IT’S CONVENIENT. WHEN YOU ARE COMMITTED TO SOMETHING; YOU ACCEPT NO EXCUSES; ONLY RESULTS.”

What have you been waiting until tomorrow to start? When we put things off until tomorrow… tomorrow never comes… we never do it [reality check]. Start right now. MAKE IT HAPPEN! =)

Ben and Jerry… It’s Over!

Whenever we are struggling to keep a new commitment or make a transformation, I believe that it is important to remember:

It is not that the old way of life becomes unappealing, it is that a new PASSION overcomes those old appeals!

What I’m saying is that whether we are struggling with overcoming sin or becoming healthier, we must understand that just because we made a decision to turn from our old ways does not mean that the old way of life will  become any less appealing. Unfortunately, sin will not instantly lose it’s sparkle nor will Ben and Jerry’s Cookies N’ Cream ice cream taste any less heavenly (why, why, why does it have to be so good?!) We have got to understand that whenever a change is being made in our lives, our old ways will still appeal to us. We only overcome them when a new passion greater than our old way of life is born.

Somewhere Over The Rainbow.

The feeling of a plan executed is just pure bliss. To stop talking and actually begin walking. To take words, thoughts, and motives and turn them into actions. To be moving. That’s it. It feels good to be moving. To be going somewhere. To be putting off old things and moving towards new, better things.

I am learning that the journey towards a goal holds the possibility of being just as, if not more, exciting than the destination itself. You see we are not merely rewarded when we reach our destination or goal, but we are rewarded each and every single day that we choose to stay on course despite the fact that our destination is yet far away.

We must take steps today knowing that each one counts regardless of how small it is. If we persevere, we will surely get there.

“If we are facing the right direction all we have to do is keep walking.”
